Has anyone ever installed front speakers in a '01 dodge ram?

I am helpin' this "old" dude out at work, he said he wants to get a cd player and some front speakers and maybe a amp for them. Just wants some more bass presence and a cd player.

lol thing is, he wants to spend 250, so yea, best buy has some kenwood HU+6.5 coax for 100, I figure thats agood way to keep him on budget.

But, crutchfield says his front doors are 5.25 factory. Has anyone done 6.5's in one of these? Is it as simple as makin some baffles? Or buying some plastic spacers?

if you have some fab. skills it shouldn't be a problem.

I would suggest some deadening also. Don't over look buying used, great deals on great equipment, just buy from people with good reps.

Oh trust me, I would totally buy used if I was doing my own stuff for 250.

But heres the deal. It's for a guy in his work truck (cabinet maker) and he doesn't care a lot about quality necessarily. He just said he wants to play cd's and be able to hear his stuff better.

This was what I was thinkin about, it's simple, cheap, and will suffice for him.

If he needs more bass. Then a cheap 8 and a small amp will do. Like I said, it's just somethin to replace his factory with. Not to get fancy.

I would totally go used. But it's dificult to do that for someone else who is not going to get on here and all that. So yeah. It wouldn't be a problem used locally.

I would prefer to avoid getting real complicated. I would prefer to go get the 6.5 spacers if he really needs something to instal the speakers with. I want to make this as simple as possible ya know.

does anyone else know? will a 6.5 speaker fit in the door without modification or spacers? Or will I need a spacer/baffle of sorts?
