do I ABSOLUTELY have to have this?

Idk if you seen it or not, but one of the reviews on crutchfield said his car wouldn't even work without it. I have no experience with that particular model but I bought one for my car for about the same price and I know now, that I never needed it in the first place.

It has a sensitivity knob in the back to adjust the chimes, and since I ran new speaker wire from the amp in the back of the car to the mids in the front doors, it doesnt even chime anyways lol. But the unit does stay on until the door is opened.

Definitely not worth the money, i'd try and find one on ebay if you find out you HAVE to get it.

And the chimes are like when you have the door open and the car gives off that little, ding ding to let you know the door is open.

Yes you should use it. Some newer vehicles have data wires to communicate with computers that go to the radio, you screw that up you can screw up your car.

You also can have onstar that communicates through it, bose system needs to be interfaced, door chimes go through it (some you need to buy a chime module also( and more.

It is well worth the money for it. You could end up trying to save money to in turn spend more to get it fixed.

Use this adapter to replace the factory radio while retaining all factory safety warning chimes and audible turn signal indicators.

Compatible with amplified and non-amplified audio systems.

The interface replicates all factory warning chimes, audible turn signal indicators and provides a data bus generated 12 volt accessory output that acts just as GM’s R.A.P. (Retained Accessory Power) system did prior to radio removal.

Product Compatibility Notes:

This adapter does not retain the OnStar system.

Compatible Vehicles:

Chevrolet:

2005-2006 Cobalt

2004-2007 Malibu

2004-2007 Malibu Maxx

2008 Malibu Classic

Pontiac:

2005-2009 G6
