Distortion?

I installed a JL 10w6v3 with a JL J2500/1 amp! Sounds amazing, but at high volumes my mids and hi's distort! They are only powered by the Alpine head unit. Also have 2 farad cap to amp! What am i doing wrong?

You're turning it up too loud and your head unit is distorting. Don't turn it up so loud or put them on an amp. Are they aftermarket speakers?

what all gear are you using

ps, you probably dont need the cap. it just puts another load on the alt. if you need more juice, upgrade the big 3

You are asking your head unit to provide more power than it is able. First, make sure your h/u eq is flat otherwise it will start to distort at lower volumes. If your eq is already flat, you should be looking at getting a second amp for your speakers. Realistically an external amp should be used to get the most out of your speakers whether they are aftermarket or not.

Like was said above, your sub stage is outrunning your front stage. The most you can expect from a head unit is ~18 watts per channel, regardless of what the manufacturer says and almost every head unit I've ever tested distorts at or before half way up it's volume scale... and you've still got a lot of clean bass volume after that point.

You should definitely install an amp on your front stage with that much sub power.

Like everyone else said you causing your mids n highs to draw more power than the headunit can handle. Either get an amp to run your components or turn the bass setting on the hu down.

Also why do you need it that loud? I mean if your turning it up to the point its distorting it should be pretty loud before the distortion point. If you trying to get a lot more bass/bump get another one of those 10's or some better subs.

Obviously you dont understand english so why are you here? This is an english forum. I was asking why he needs the head unit up that loud. Not the system *******. I know hes trying to be loud with his system but he doesnt need to turn his hu up that loud for it to be loud he needs another sub or an amp for his componants. Why dont you use what little brains you got and put 2 and 2 together next time before you speak. I know for a fact hes either trying to get more bass or trying to hear the vocals just as clear as the bass. Either way turning the hu up that loud isnt going to fix it. He needs to either power his components with an amp or get another sub for whatever hes trying to do. But of course if you were as good at being smart as you are are being a smart *** you would know that.
