distorted highs

ok, my subs make amazing low bass, but with higher frequecies of bass, it sounds like they are distorting, could this be the tuning of the box? or the setting of the LPF on my amp. i have an older style Directed 1100d wired in 1 ohm to 2 12" l7. my box is 6 ft^3 tuned to 33 htz.

Then the answer could be as simple as turning down your lowpass fitler.

But I guess we'll never know....... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I got the same sub (except its a single 15) and amp (directed 1100d) and I had it hooked up by a friend who did a horrible job on the install. For the short time that it played the lows where decent for a horrbile install but higher freq where distorted. If I remember correctly I had the low pass @ like 110 hz which I know is too high. I didn't have the SSF on since by box is tuned so low so you most likely have the low pass too high. I'll know for sure about mine when I have the shop do the install correctly.

thanks for the responses, im gonna see what my low pass filter is set at once i have time, ill check it tommorow and let you know, what should it be set at for box tuned to 33hz?:boobies:

The box tuning doesn't really matter in regards to the lowpass setting. It's more a function of how low the mids can play and where the sound begins to blend well between the sub and the rest of the system. Typically it will be set in the 50-85hz area, but there is no right or wrong, only a what sounds good and doesn't sound good. And it's not something that can really be answered with a specific frequency for your answer over the 'net. It's something that you can only listen for.

I think I'm going to set mine at around 60-65 hz. My box is tuned to around 30hz so you could probably set yours around the 60-65 too.

sounds like it could be a power issue. not enough power behind them. what size power cable do you have, and what amp?
Hmm.. I can understand if it was a power issue for me. When I had someone look at the install I was told that they were surprised that the amp even came on with such a horrible install. They said that I was probably only getting 200 watts at the very most out of the amp because of the install. I'll know for sure tommorow when I go to the shop. BTW we both have Directed 1100d's. I had knukonceptz kolossus 4 gauge but he didn't have the power wire going through the hole in the firewall but forced under the hole which ripped up most of the wire so bad that chunks of wire where hanging out and he also had the power wire going into the fuse box instead of the battery.

i would step it up to 1/0.

i have mine going straight to the battery (through a fuse of course). the line between the fuse and battery is about 8 inches long, if that makes any difference. its raptor 4g wire, it worked well with my last setup.

i could understand if it did it all the time, but it only does it every once and awhile, i think part of it may be bad connections behind my head unit. my headunit is kind of ghetto rigged in untill i get a new one, when you push it in sometimes the subs sound louder, i think that the RCA cable jacks in the back are messed up. stupid me for buying a crappy sony head unit:banghead:

but i am going to do some major trouble shooting tommorow, untill my neighbors call the police on me like they did last time

silly old people.
