DIfference

THis may be a dumb question for you genius car guys, but is there a difference or a better way than another for bass......Is it better to turn up gains a bit on amp and play lower level of bass at HU? or keep gains low on amp, and turn bass up on HU? Does it make any kind of difference, because I have my gains set pretty low right now, and I turn my HU up to +9 or +11 on bass to sub. It goes to +15.
