Difference in SQ among these amps?

Right now I'm running a set of ADS 6.5" components which sounds okay. I'll probably upgrade them soon. Any recommendations? I'm currently using a PPI A404 to power these and an Eclipse 8" sub.

I have a couple other amps that I want to try including: older Transana Punch 800a2 and 600a4, McIntosh M431 and 425, and a Soundstream Reference 404. The McIntosh would probably be the cleanest amp, but is there that much of a difference in SQ using any of these amps? The McIntosh is very space-consuming as well as heavy on the pocket.

The Fosgates are GREAT amps..I had a 360A2..and my girl has a 160A2 and they produce excellent power, THE LAST GREAT FOSGATE AMPS!.

But for the components I would say to use the soundstream?..to be BIASED I would say to buy ARC audio for SQ..But for what you have the soundstreams sounds like a good all around pick! OVERALL THOUGH..they are all good amps and I doubt you will notice a big diffrence using anyone of them over the other..in fact I suspect you will "prefer" the volume and sound using the Fosgates..but SQ was not thier main purpose?

I have run the McIntosh amps in the past very clean. I have installed many of the Sound stream amps, clean and powerful. I would agree with Depression all the amps are clean amps and most people wouldn't hera a difference.

For the components, I am old school, nothing beats the sound of MB Quarts.

Exactly... I highly doubt anyone would be able to tell the difference in amps. Amps will sound the same if they have the same amout of power... so if you take a 200WRMS Tue amp, and a 200WRMS Jensen amp they will sound the same. seeing as how THD Dampning slewrate overhead ect ect all can be different im gonna have to say yes amps sound different. maybe not noticably between most but there are differences.

This is an issue that came up on this Forum about a year ago when I first became member and it was fascinating yet caused alot of debates

Apparently a proffesor of sound engineering or something issued a challenge that if anyone could tell any audible diffrences between 2 identicaly rated amps..he would give them 1 million dollars...From what it said ALOT of people took him up on this deal and NO ONE WON the million. Don't look at me..I did not claim this. But alot of Members at the time had big issues with this claim and raised the B.S. Flag..

But apparently it's true...ALL AMPS ARE THE SAME....I have 3 ARC Amps so I hope my shit is better..but I guess it's not supposed to make a diffrence

I bet this is also partly due to being in a car, not exactly the best testing grounds.

Move over to home theater where you get into some serious equipment ( not the stuff you buy at the likes of CC or BB ) and I bet on a good pair of speakers you can tell the differance between a good amp and a cheap amp. Now im not saying you maybe be able to tell one between a 10,000 doller krell or plinus and 2500 doller ATI or ADCOM but between those and some cheapy amp Im more than positive you will.

If you take 2 different amps with the same power output. Set them flat. You will never tell the difference between them. He made this challenge partly do to tube amps. Automotive amps and HT amps. An amp is an amp. A watt is a watt. An amps soley job is to amplify sound. That's it. It has nothing to do with SQ. Amps don't produce SQ. EQ's do though. Take his test. Collect your $10,000. Change the world.

I remember that challenge and yet I it was still hard to fathom the thought that $$ amps and cheaper amps produce the same sound. 1

I guess that kills my excitement from picking up the two McIntosh amps. Anyone wants to buy them? lol.

I'm going to keep the punch 600a4 or Soundstream with a rockford power bd1000 and sell the rest.

I had a set of MB Quart but the midbass was lacking. I didn't have the Q-series though. I've read a lot of good things about CDTs on here though. Any recommendation on series?

B.S...I sent Supa C $250 last month and I got a set of Pioneer 5.25's that retail for $50.He had put Stickers on them that said CDT..but I could tell they were fake....

No..it's a legit deal.....Believe the "hook up" Hype...I still gotta come through with the loot but the Deal Supa C hooked me up with was "BETTER" than I imagined I would get..And I have seen numerous posts from Members who were EXTREMELY Pleased with this Deal and No One has complained.

I just hope this hook up doesn't get blown before I get my loot together. half this Forum got thier CDT Speaker set ups from Supa C and "T"
