Difference in amps?

Hallo,

Can someone tell me what the difference is between amps with a equal watt rms on for example 4Ohm (11V-14.5V) THD

After a lot of reading i came to the conclusion that an amp doesn't produce noise or also called SQ.

What's the difference between amps (excluding price) with exception of Frequency Response en Damping Factor?

Great thnx,

A) Very few amps are going to output the same wattage on varying input voltages. Generally the higher the input voltage rises the more the amp will output. There are exceptions to this generalization but they are few and far between.

B) You have to take into consideration the brand of the amplifier(s) in question as some manufacturers can be trusted with their product ratings and some artificially inflate their ratings in hopes of increasing sales.

Are there any amps in specific that you are comparing or is this a general question?

So if CEA-2006 approved it doesn't make, with execption of crossover/equalising optins etc, a difference?

Yes, Considering JL Audio 450/4 and Phoenix Gold X200.4.

CEA-2006 ratings compliance isn't an "approval" per se - it simply verifies that the output ratings given by the manufacturer are true and accurate and that if you give the amp in question 14.4 volts of input you will get the rated output back out of it.

Comparing the JL 450/4 and the PG Xenon 200.4, eh?

Well - the JL will give you 450w total at any resistance load between 1.5 and 4 Ohms.

If I recall correctly the PG unit outputs 200w per channel @ any load between 1 and 4 Ohms, I think?

So you're comparing a 450w amp with an 800w amp here....

True, but price is nearly the same but power a lot more!???

Does that make sense?

Not really. Not to me at any rate.

If they are priced comparably I would definitely go with the PG amp if for no other reason than nearly double the output as well as retaining the resistance versatility...
