Did I just fry my head unit??!!

Headunit: Pioneer AVH-p4000DVD

One of my amps was acting stupid, so I started unplugging RCA's to see which channel was working while the HU was still on.

Shortly after, I turned the car off, turned it back on the the HU was dead.

First I checked the fuse on the back of the stereo...good.

Checked the radio fuse in the fuse box of the car...good.

Took a DMM and checked for voltage at the wire harness that plugs into the HU...12.4v.

Now...I don't know anything else that could be wrong, other than a blow head unit. Given that this is completely my fault, as I know I've read somewhere that you should not disconnect and connect wires while the HU has power, do I have any options? Am I missing something to trouble shoot the issue?

all you unplugged were the RCAs? that will kill a pico, but shouldn't zap the unit. you sure nothing else touched? does the unit have a reset button? i'm sure it does. that may help too.

if it does have a reset button, I haven't seen it. I'll google it though. Thanks.

I still don't have it working correctly yet, BUT, I ran the accessory wire from the harness to my switch to turn the amp on, and the head unit powered up. Now I know it's a wiring issue somewhere, I just have to find it. I'm just happy it's coming on. Thanks again to everyone.

sounds like loose wiring job at the HU

I had this problem and I had a backup radio fuse under the hood that popped. Changed it out an never had an issue afterwards.

Sounds like poor wiring. Your ACC has either blown the fuse or come undone....
