It's not always the your government trying to pull things on you..... and there's more than one group trying to control the government... Also keeping an open mind doesn't always mean listening to hippies.... As for the sheep comment I was trying to get your attension... your quotes are party line democrat stuff I hear all the time, however I'm not trying to be offensive, just impactful...

and yah for 35... it's my target retirement age (no I'm not some lucky trust funder... I'm actually in the hole about 20k right now with schooling and such)

I'm a liberal by birth, as in I believe in having a FAIR gov't that cares about our environment and doesn't give tax breaks to the already rich top percentage of Americans. I'm a democrat by CHOICE because between the 2 major political parties they serve my hopes and beliefs better. I'm not and never will say the dems are perfect or even close to it but last time I checked they weren't lying to put our troops in harms way. And I may not be the smartest guy around but I AM smart enough to know better than to vote for someone who used FEAR as his biggest weapon in getting re elected.

Whether they wanted democracy or not it wasn't OUR responsibility to go provide it. The whole democracy is just an excuse to be there.

in a democracry if 51 percent of the people want to go ahead and pass a law about only being able to use sony xplod subwoofers and pyle kicks then by law then can since they have the MAJORITY

However in a replublic its fair laws for all people even the 1 % of population has the same rights as the majority.

That article was 10% truth and about 90% rhetoric. Yes, you can't deny that this happened in this war and probably every war since the beginning of time. However, I don't think that you can accurately understand the context when you are half way around the world going to school or work everyday then going out on the weekends. The context is completely different for those who have been sitting in a desert hellhole for half a year or more without family or non-military friends whose job consists of trying to maintain some faux order without dying in the process.
So, I don't blame them for taking some pleasure out of killing someone. It's adapting to the situation they are in even if that means being desensitized to the moral rules that we claim to uphold here in the US. The concern comes more in the future when the enemy is not just who is shooting at you now but who is thought to be working to get you killed. That is when it all snowballs into another My Lai. Even if that doesn't happen, there are a multiude of Vietnam vets who came back from the war to become wife batterers, drug addicts, transients, and worse. Some soldiers can keep their combat lives seperate from their lives back at home, and some can't.
