Cuts Out

Hello,

I recently just got two MTX Audio 10'' 400watt subs installed with a 760 watt Pioneer amp (GM-5100T) and with 800 watt cables. It works great. However, when im driving i like to have my music up loud. The sound of the subs cuts out then comes back on after about 2 seconds every now and then. I checked the connections and fuses to make sure they were put in correctly and everything is tight. I read somewhere that its doing this because the Gain is set too high. When they installed them, the gain was set all the way up, so i turned it down all the way to check it out with still the same results.

My amp has an "on" indicator on it, and i had my back seat layed down to check when i was driving to see if it was the amp just turning off and it didnt turn off when the sound cut out. Keep in mind, this only happens when im driving, i can play the subs as loud as i want when im just idling. This also only happens when i play my music loud. The sound isnt even distorted or anything at that volume but when i turn it down to where it doesnt do it anymore, its not even loud lol...

Ive also noticed that when im driving at night and i have my headlights on, they dim (i think this is normal but just in case it isnt hehe) and when im idle, my car will be at about 1000 RPM and it will start idling rough to about 500RPM when bass kicks. Also, these were installed in my brothers car before mine and they worked fine at the volume im trying to play them at. In fact, ive almost played them loud enough that they started to distort a little.

Thanks for reading/helping!

lol just went outside and checked the ground, it was taped w/ electrical tape to the stock black ground wire. I put the ground onto the metal around the dash. Lets see how it works out tomorrow. Thanks for the help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Guess i was thinking of the wrong ground... I took it back to the people who installed it (Circuit City) and they said the ground was a little loose and they tightened it, they noticed that the amp was getting really hot (i checked and after a while to the touch it burns you lol o_O), and they said i may need a more powerful amp. It still cuts out and starts playing again after about 3 seconds.

Just wondering if getting the amp would be the right thing to do... Here are the specs:

2x 10'' MTX Audio RT10-44

RMS 200watts

More Info (PDF)

1x Pioneer GM-5100T

• 125 Watts x 2, at 4 ohms

• 380 Watts x 1, at 4 ohms BRIDGE

• 75 dBA Signal-to-Noise Ratio (Reference: 1 Watt Output)

More Info

I want to play both of these subs at their RMS

maybe youre clipping the amp...that would explain the overheating and cutting out through the thermal protection?

it also looks like you are underpowering the subs...for once i believe cirucuitcity could have the answer. these are 2 possible solutions:

1. turn the gain down/set with dmm

2. get a bigger amp/set with dmm
