Well i have a KInetik HC800 in my trunk wired to my hood battery. I have all of my hardware in sig wired up to it. (Alpine is in 1.5 CU FT now, ported). I can play it as loud as i want with the car off (1995 Eclipse GSX). When the car is on the sub cuts out when playing at louder volumes. What could be the problem? Big 3?(even though the Kinetik has its own 0 gauge ground?)

Alternator. You are drawing too much power when all your systems are drawing current.

so my alternator isnt big enough? would the big 3 solve it? is it putting a lot of stress on my alternator?

it seems that is it is playing fine with just batt power and then starts cutting off when you car is ON,, you are drawing current from somewhere else that is taxing your electrical. Any other electrical problems with the car that could be draqing enough current to effect the performance of your system?

I agree with Funky ^^^

The issue is that your audio is the only load with the car off. When you turn the car on, the rest of the car's electrical is an additional load.

Let's say your audio is 50A continuous and your stock electrical is another 50A continuous.

With the car off, the batteries only need to produce 50A. With the car on, they have to produce 100A. The additional load drops the voltage, hence the protect mode.

Now what this shows you is that your ALT is dead and is no longer making enough power to compensate for the stock electrical, let alone power the audio or charge the batteries. Good thing you have good batteries to keep that car running.
