Culprit in an Engine Fire - Can you guys check it out please?

Ok so as of now I'm down one wire in my Big 3. A few months ago I parked my car and saw smoke coming from the hood and a tiny fire near my alternator. I got it checked out and was told that I needed a new alternator.

This was the wire from my Alt. to my Batt. and I'm just wondering if you guys could check it out and tell me what you think probably caused all this crap and how I could put a wire back in without having more trouble.

was that the end that was on the alt? looks to me like the ring terminal grounded to the alt case

to me it looks like it may have been a lose connection causing the electricity to arc....Which welded the terminal 2 what ever it was on, and created heat that caused shit 2 burn up
