Ouch. What kind of surgery? Fusing vertebrae?

They already went through that once or twice. Now they try to cut out the calcium deposits on the discs. From what I understand, the discs develop calcium deposits and enlarge...pushing on the nerves. It "short circuited" a nerve last summer and caused the bone in his hip to die. This is going to crush him. Seriously. He doesn't know how to sit and live off the govt or whatever. He may be eligible for disability, but he defines his livlihood through work. The "work-money-buy shit" cycle is implanted in his brain...I don't know what they are going to do...but my mom said the dr. is going to try to get him to file for disability or some measure to prevent him from working.

Ya that sounds like a condition that even if you could remedy it wouldbe temporary. Seems like it will just keep creeping back. Hopefully the conclusion won't lead him to depression though. It's a good possibility with how you describe his character.

That is what me and my mom fear. It isn't the income, it's the lack of worth he would feel. I can't blame him...if something happened to me where I couldn't work or be productive, I'd consider offing myself. Sadly, some of us aren't cut out to be welfare kings.

How to make him feel productive, I don't know. Me and my mom are talking about needed improvements to selling the house. They could probably pay the mortgage, but couldn't mow the lawn/paint/etc.

Get him motivated to learn a new trade. Something that can occupy his time without the need to do manual labor.

Yes, that will be a big cchallkenge for you all. Unfortunately I don't know how to help, except that he needs to learn some other way to feel useful as BB suggested without physical abilities.

My boss is such a douche.
We get solicitation calls a lot here.

Some lady calls, asks for old boss. Said doesn't work here anymore. She asks if our name is still the same, said no, it changed several years ago. She then asks how many other offices we have, I tell her a bunch. She then asks about our corporate hq, I tell her it's in Minnesota. I get off phone with her.

My boss comes to me and says, "you told her too much info". I said, "like what...?" He says, too much info. I tell him, I didn't tell her anything of any worth. He says, still too much info.

I want to snap his neck and shit down his throat. I hate this dumb fuck.

Sorry to hear about your dad Flip, the thing is his generation is so set on everything being manual labor he probably does not realize there are quite a few opportunities out there.
The guy across from my fathers house is also out of work for good with back issues and he got a job from home with a travel agency where he has a vonage line and they forward calls to him and he acts just like a call center rep.

Might not be right for him but there are tons of options out there and more and more jobs are being computer based, hell I hope to never work another day of manual labor in my life.

The thought of my dad using a telephone makes me lol. A computer...ha.

He has interest, but feels overwhelmed. He is slow and methodical...my mom just rushes him, he gets mad and then that's that for computer time.
