Bumping up the coverage is relatively cheap. At a bare minimum you should have 100/300.

That is what I heard. Now that I have something that someone could take, I have a need to protect it. When I didn't own anything, I didn't care if I got sued. Although I have heard that if there is such an accident, the insurance company will represent me if they sue for more coverage than I have.

The duty to defend is a big part of the coverage. Here, under certain cricumstances, if you are in an excess situation the insurance company is actually on the hook for two law firms. One that they choose and, if you elect, you can choose a second firm that answers only to you that they pick up the tab for.

If the complaint demands more than policy limits and the plaintiff then makes a settlement demand within policy limits the insurance company has to be very careful how it proceeds.
