We have a few similar services here in Canada. I tried one called Cinemail and it was by far the most enjoyable movie experience I have ever had. Tons of movies, great prices, never had to worry about what movie to watch. I was making copies of everything, too, so now I have ~400 DVD's in my collection. I recommend these types of services.

I have been almost exclusively downloading movies for the last couple of years. I just got set-up my new computer, which has an HDMI output, so I'm going to continue downloading movies and pass them to the TV straight from my computer. The only challenge is that HD content is so large that I am frequently running into the bandwidth limitation in place by my ISP, so I am waiting for a rental place that has HD movies that I can rip.
