are there any major differences in car audio sub boxes and HT sub boxes? Like do you have to do anything special to them?

Just like anything else, they need to be properly designed.

Otherwise, nothing that I can think of.

I actually use one of my old SPL boxes as my HT box after I did a few changes.

I also have more in my 3.1 setup than a lot of people do in their 5/7.1 Setups.

To be honest with my front stage being as it is I don't even notice not having surround speakers.

Back in C-Town Andy only has 2.1 and Alton runs the same. But, Alton's system is usually at a much higher SPL level.

I will never forget when he tripped 4 20 Amp Circuit breakers on his power conditioners that run the subs during the part in Predator when they mow down the forest with the mini gun. WOW, sums it up right.
