Crunk Flammable Jello Times

I'm going to be radar detector-less for a couple of weeks.

It is teh suxors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

But - I reckon here soon I'll be able to let everyone know whether or not Beltronics' service department is worth a crap and how long their turnaround time on warrantied repairs is...

My RX65 Pro, just last night, decided it wanted to go on the blink. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif It flashes some service notification ("SelfCal4" - whatever that means) and then starts flashing 'Service Required' after it first powers up.

At first I was peeved considerably. My driving habits more or less necessitate a good radar detector to keep me from single-handedly funding my hometown's various needs. My current financial situation excludes the possibility of buying a new detector since the "budget" ones simply aren't worth buying and I cannot afford to buy a new one that is worth having.

Extended warranties not worth the money? I beg to differ...

So I go to grab the box it came in when I originally bought the durn thing to see what I needed to do to send it in for repair and to get the CS number so I can call to ask if there is any way of them letting me know a ballpark figure on how much repair is going to cost.

Once I found said box I also located (smartly put in the box by me, apparently) the original invoice from when I purchased it in March of 2005. I had forgotten about having done so but it would appear that along with the detector I also opted for the 3-year extended warranty coverage.

Bonus!

Thankfully the durn thing chose to go on the fritz now rather than waiting until after March of next year when the warranty would run out (since isn't that always the way of things?!?)

So - I call 'em up, they pulled my invoice from their records to verify that the warranty was still in effect, gave me a repair authorization number, and detailed instructions on what I was to include with the shipment.

I'll essentially have a brand-new detector once it gets back so I'm told by the CS rep that I spoke with. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif

Guess that extended warranty option wasn't so bad after all since the $30 I paid for it is likely cheaper than whatever I would have probably had to pay for repair not covered under warranty and certainly cheaper than buying a new detector altogether!
