Yes, it would be near perfect as long as you remember to use an outboard crossover (unless you're using it with a home theater receiver that has its own crossover for the ".1" channel).
He said he wants to use it on a passive home subwoofer.
Now I admit Im expecting him to match the power and ohms of the sub to that amp, but if he takes those into consideration it should be fine.
