Well after wating in line for hours testing interviews and multiple trips to sanfrancisco i have been selected along with 15 other people to be the first batch of people to begin training as an aprentice electritian. ill be working out of local 6 in sanfrancisco. starting some time in spring. well i live about 3 hours from sanfrancisco so im going to move in with my uncle in sonoma for a while untill i get some money to get my own place. i was thinking of getting a credit card to help my credit incase i need a home loan or anything. nothing to major just like a $500 a month limit or something. last time i checked equifax they said i had a 680 credit score however when i tried to refinance my car they said i didnt have enough on my report. only had car payments so hopefully this will help. what i am wondering is which company is pretty good as far as intrest rates and giving credit cards to first time owners. things like that and if i should the paypal credit card or not. thankx for your help in advance

Hope that job doesn't require spelling skills //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Anyways.....just about any major company should give you a card. I'd suggest that you tell them you DO NOT want you limit automatically raised periodically....because that's a good way to get yourself into trouble. "Oh, well, I have a higher limit now, adding a few more dollars onto my credit card won't hurt" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif

As for good interest rates; shouldn't matter because you should pay your balance off every month //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Just make sure the company doesn't have any kind of annual fee.

Also, most companies require that you have 2 lines of credit (car loan, credit card, etc) for a length of two years each to obtain loans like house loans and car loans, which is probably why the company said you didn't have enough credit on your credit report.

Remember that the balance on your card effects your credit. If you have 80% of your credit limit advanced (i.e. your balance is 80% or more of your limit), then it will likely negatively affect your score.

dont pay your balance off every month if you wanna stellar score. carry a balance between 20-30%.

Have more then one LOC. Dont go nuts though...

Never, ever, ever, ever pay a late payment. get an online bank that has online billpay and enroll. setup automatic payments to be delivered to your note-holders at least 5 business days before your due date.

and lastly....

dont listen to squeak about credit scores.

i was thinking of the paypal credit card so i could do it all online. anyone have any experience with that?

I've got a citicard and have since the month I turned 18...my limit is up to 2,200 right now, but I'll never go anywhere near that. Citibank is nice because they don't charge you to pay your bill online (1st bank of america does...my other card that I have since cancelled). I use my card for everything, I don't ever spend cash anymore, then I just sit down every monday and pay it off. I got approved for a 12 month apartment lease for next fall so it's got to be doing something for me.

good work on the electrician job, i've been training for the past two years but haven't decided if i want to go into it yet. as for credit, i have an american express and love it! as long as you watch your spending you'll be safe.

He can pay off the previous balance fully so that he doesn't have to pay finance charges. There is an overlap between when the new period starts and when the payment for the prior period is due. So, payoff your balance monthly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

But do get good hot glue **** from Nick. Mmmmm.....hot glue gun **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/drool.gif.b5e863e893038027711d4402f340dad0.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif

Credit scares me...im not 18 yet, but im paranoid that i will sink myself into debt.

Honestly.....it sounds all difficult and complicated (and it is...LOL), but basically it boils down to don't be stupid. Think about what someone who might loan you money wouldn't want you to do, and then don't do it.
