Craziest projects/pipe dreams

trying to run less than 10s with my 91 suburban with over 155,000 miles //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif like that's going to happen....

Here is a whole new idea that is completely original.... a Escalade painted black, or white pearl on 22-24 inch rims. Saddest thing to me in the stars have so much money they could do ANYTHING to a car, yet most still have the same boring tank looking POS on like $40,000 rims. I give way higher props to a guy in a FULLY custimized Ford Tempo over that. Originality is key. Take a car noone gives a **** about, and make it turn every head in a parking lot:p

Still working on my 83 SVT Cougar.

Have been for the last 3 years.

I basically am re-building this car from the ground up.

http://www.soundwavescs.net/cougar.html

-Just purchased a high $$ set of Boyd's Rims for it. High $$-yes, but they were what I wanted, and will really set the car off.

-Also going to re-do the exhaust on this car over the summer. Flowmasters and some more custom work. Going to try a new set of MAC Cobra headers, but I'll likely have to modify the steering linkage first, as it is rather in the way.

-Interior Work yet - New dash cover, carpet, seats re-upholstered, window weather stripping, etc.

-I'd like to ditch the current system this year in favor of something different, likely that will not happen though.

Also I'm working on a 89 Mustang LX. Basically re-building it from the ground up as well.

I bought the car for $200 at a local auction, and have always wanted to re-do a late 80's Stang.

This one needs Body work, paint, suspension, exhaust, gaskets, sensors, fuel system work, electrical wiring, and a crap load of clean up.

I am just about done with all the body work and am getting it ready for primer.

-Allready did the tune up, replaced 95% of the problem sensors, replaced all filters/fluids/hoses, flushed the fuel system, replaced the regulator, de-carbonized, replaced the hatch hinge's, did a majority of the electrical work, and did a ton of clean up.

It runs pretty well at this point, but still needs a few other things.

If I can get those things taken care of, and the paint on it this year, I'll be happy.

Also have a 95 Tbird that I am wraping up the new install on.

Two Elemental Designs e120.44's in the rear deck.

An entire system going full throttle by way of Xtant Power.

- Going to toss on a CAI this year, and concentrate on fixing all the little scratches and imperfections in the paint. - Basically, it's going to be a long summer of detailing and paint restoration with good tunes for this car.

Also I have to finish a 78 Ford 350 Dump Truck for my dad. Seems as if it was on the job, and a hole magically appeared in it's roof.

Hmmpff. Go figure.

- Body work is 95% done on it. Should finish it later today, and have it primed and ready for paint tomorrow.

-Still need to adjust the carb and timing on it too, as it doesn't run the best at the moment.

And to top that off, dad just went to look at an old Ford Fairlaine that he is looking into buying and having me restore.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Still have a riding mower that I am re-building the 12 HP Briggs & Stratton on.

I have entirely way too many projects at one time.

By the way, all of these projects are being done along side my full time job. So, yes, I officially have no life. lol! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But, I don't really mind. I love what I do.

Obsessive Compulsive?

yep.

I'm currently working on two classic motorcycles: a 1981 Yamaha sr500 and a 1977 Honda cbr750 Super Sport. (crappy pics at http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=944)

The Yamaha or "The Fonz" as it has been dubbed, is the last single cyllinder 500cc bike that Yamaha ever made. Its also one of the last bikes ever made without an electric start. It took me three days and a visit from an old biker to learn how to kick it over. When I got it, it was in horrible shape as far as looks go and was missing several pieces. Since then I've thoroughly cleaned it, replaced all the missing parts and replaced some others that didn't really need replacing for the sake of looks (rusted header pipe, new battery, kick starter, foot rests, front fender, handle grips, and rewired the whole thing for safety's sake). It's currently primered all the way around because the original paint was very damaged because of weather and age. I might repaint it some time in the near future, but at the moment the primer is kinda growing on me....looks mean //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The bike is very mechanically sound and only had 8100 miles on it when I got it, but I've put another 200 on it just riding around on the back roads near my house. Its not the fastest bike in the world, but it has a lot of "personality" and is a great bike to learn on.

The Honda is an absolute beast. I drove it home the day I bought it and haven't ridden it since. To be honest, I'm absolutely scared shitless of this bike. Its way faster than the Yamaha, and is better balanced and steers better because if its size and weight. It has 9300 miles on it and only needs minor touch-ups in the paint on the tank. It was well taken care of by it's previous owner and it really shows. Unlike the Yamaha, it has an electric starter which fires up on the first try every time. I'm in the process of detailing it, and I'll probably end up repainting the whole tank to get rid of those ugly-ass pin stripes. I'd also like to find new gold Honda and Super Sport logos, as the ones that are on it now are flaking and faded. I've never really let it loose because, as I mentioned before, it scares me, but my dad assures me that it will do 60+ mph in 1st gear //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nerd.gif.c6fa51ddf7ff75f1c0371fbc648f70ae.gif

I had never really even thought about owning a motorcycle until last month, but now that I've been on one and am getting a feel for it, I think this will probably be right on par with my car audio hobby in the near future. I love the way these older bikes look, feel and sound. I just purchased a trooper-style flat black helmet and my buddy Jerry is going to airbrush the Jolly Roger on the back of it for me.

The thing that surprised me the most about motorcycles is that I don't even care that there's no music playing while I'm riding around. The sound of the exhaust notes while I'm cruising is enough to keep me entertained //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I plan to get my car to run 15.5. I know thats not that fast, but for 140hp car thats pretty good. So far on my 240sx i got, CAI, Catback exhaust, Short throw shifter, gutted back end kinda, removed the gay big fan, put in a electric fan, new 8mm bosche? wires. just gotta get more track time

zane, are you handy with kit cars? I am seriously looking into bulding a cobra replica, and iv'e beenr eading up on quite a lot on it. Now, i don't think any amount of reading will teach me what I will learn down the road.

Perhaps I can ask you a few pointers about this and that at a future time?

I'm currently working on a Geo Storm, dropping in a whole new engine and putting a stage three turbo on it, 600+ HP and street legal.
Anybody else have some crazy ideas?

you want to have 600 hp in a FWD car? and expect it to be street legal? lmao.

Exactly. Nobody would see it coming, that's for sure.

i think that when people build POS cars like this to be fast is stupid, why spend all that extra money when you dont have to? you could build a better looking car that handles better, and is faster for alot cheaper. and i know what your answer is "because no one will see it coming". then my response would be: you spent 5,6,7 extra thousand dollars to impress someone for a few seconds?

I was actually going to say because I got it for free. If this goes well I am going to try a 240SX next time...

what engine are you going to use for the geo.
I was thinking maybe a Civic engine and just taking out and replacing all the fuel injectors, headers, etc. and putting a nice stage III turbo, but IDK really. Front wheel drive is exactly the problem, and the most I could fit would be a 2.0 liter. Any suggestions?

top notch automotive engineers say the absolute maximum for FWD cars should be 230 horses, after which in corners, it's pretty much useless. Ever driven a 250hp FWD street car on the track? It's horrid. (Track, not 1/4 strips)

yep.

You shouldn't have a problem with the headers and steering interfering. The Cougars and T-birds are the same FOX platform as the mustang and the steering and suspension geometry will be the same. Also, if you need any parts for your Mustang project, send me a PM, I have a lot of stuff available, and what I don't have, I can pretty much get my hands on.

there are drag cars with near 800-900hp that are FWD, but if you put that same power to a RWD car it would be faster, and handle better. personally if you are looking to build a civic block to over600 hp you better be looking to spend a small fortune.

and just switching out the fuel injectors, header, etc and adding a "stage 3 turbo" wont exactly do the trick. you have to build EVERYTHING in that motor, from the crank to the bolts that hold everything together. i dont think you know the quandry you are getting yourself into.

btw, how old are you.

Never built a true "Kit Car," however, I can't imagine that it would be any worse than re-building an actual car.

Pointers from my own re-building experience:

Read as much as you can on your project, and then read some more.

Take a close look at as many cars like the one you are going to work on before you start, and become familiar with them.

Ask questions.

Have everything planned out and written down before you begin.

Have the parts you need at your shop when you need them. There is nothing more frustrating that your project being brought to a screaching hault because you forgot to order a dumb camshaft. - You get the idea. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Plan for the project to take and extensive amount of time and have the patience, and the shop to go with it for that same amount of time.

Never Rush a d*mn thing.

Keep at least 1 day of the week to be away from your project or it will get old.

Remember to sleep.

Measure twice, cut once.

Most importantly, and I am very serious about these:

Have something good to listen to while you work.

Have plenty of water to consume while working.

Document your progress on paper, and in photograph. - It's a real motivator!

There's a good start for you.

Driver's side header is a b*tch. It will not fit as the steering linkage sits too close to the block. This is with my OEM SVT Cobra Headers.

By all means though, if you know a "trick" to getting it to work, I'm open to suggestions.

These are what I am working with for now:

I remember reading some articles in the a Mustang magazine I read, and on long tube headers for one Mustang I was reading about they had to remove the steering shaft, put the header on and then re-install the steering shaft BETWEEN the header pipes. Pain in the neck for sure.

Sorry, but I don't know any short and easy way to get the header in.

Maybe someone at one of the Mustang forums knows a work-around for this.

Later.
