Craigslist purchase gone wrong!

Aight...my twin bro broke his phone a week or so ago and bought one off craigslist yesterday (drove an hour to get it) well he took it into the verizon store today and come to find out the phone has been reported stolen and the Verizon store confiscated it.....my dad is worried that charges will be placed on my bro for possession of stolen property and recieving stolen porperty....any suggestions on wat to do?

this is why when you buy a phone you call the service provider and do an ESN check to find out if the phone has been reported stolen.

It takes 30 seconds to do

Does verizon charge you to change phones? Do you have to renew your contract?

yea my dad was all pissy sayin "no more buyin off craigs" and i was like bro shoulda got the ESN first and checked. and the guy he bought it from says he had it and changed services so bro didnt think nething of it....i thought something was fishy when the guy said he didnt have a charger for it. Verizon called the guy who reported it stolen so they confiscated to ship it back to him. My dad plans on making a trip to the city police station of the guy who sold bro the phone here in a lil bit just to fill them in b4 nething else happens as far as that guy placing charges or nething.

When I buy a used cell phone I make them meet me at a Version shop to check it out first before any money is exchanged.

I have been pretty sucessful so far, Only 2 people out of the 5 said no they will not be willing to do that. So I do not buy from those types of folks.

yea^ good idea.....i almost ahd a scare the last time i purchased off craigslist bout a phone...the guy hand delivered it to me at my work and that night i went to activate it on the comp and they said it was activated already..called the help line and they said it had never been disconnected but there was no service on it....well come to find out the guy upgraded his plan the day b4 he sold to me and the booth at Best Buy that he bought from totes screwed up his plan...verizon, me , and the guy all had to be 3-wayed over the phone to get it str8ened out...the guy that sold to me was VERY helpful in resolving the matter.

I just bought a verizon phone off craigslist bout two weeks ago. I was just about to buy it and a cop stops us cuz he thought we were selling drugs or sumn so he ran the phone to c if it was reported stolen. he said if it was reported stolen and we had possession of the phone, we would have to give it up and that would be our lost. But since he took down the other peoples names, they would be charge with stealing the phone. Sux for joo

For almost every phone I had, I had no charger, since I used my laptop as a charger.
