cracking windows

does cracking your windows when you've got sealed enclosures supposed to be louder? When i roll my winders down a few inches it seems the spl in the car rises? it also tends to make it sound better? any ideas as to why this would be, maybe windows acting like ports?

and i have a vented box and when i break the seal of the windows it's much louder
