cooling fans for amps

i am building me a box to put over my speaker box instead of putting the amps directly on the box since someone decided to break a window and steal one of my amps. and it'll be closed and have a plexi glass window over the amps for viewing pleasure and i was planning on leaving a hole in the back of the box and installing fans on both sides and i was wondering if anyone could explane to me how to install the fans. i don't know if i have to run wire or install fuses or run a remote wire or anything like that and i am trying to keep it as simple as possible any help would be really appreciated

well a very simple way i would think is to get the fans, find out how many volts u need to send them, rig up a battery pack for them, the just run a simple switch, hiding all wires and battery pack. maybe throw an LED in there so u know when the batterys arnt giving enough juice. I think this is way easier than running it to the battery and remote, and all that, but if u really dont want to flip a switch then....

ide go into the HU, use a DMM or just if u know what wire is a ACC 12 volt wire and jimmy a fan wire to that, then ground the neg fan wire.. now ur fans turn on when the HU turns on, or ur key is turned to ACC.

or

u can run a relay somehow, seems like it wouldnt be worth it, theres simpler ways in my mind..

well how are u going to use power/ground, and a remote wire? remote wire is constant 12v, you should be ok using a remote to power fans (although i could get a remote for it) but if the fans pull to much energy, ur amp wont turn on. I've heard the amp needs fractions of fractions of 12volts to stay turn on though.

wat kinda lights? for the fans, or are u talking neon?

ok how about if i use the power off my capacitor since it has a remote wire and only comes on when the switch is on and the radio? i just don't want to use up too much power

ok man, try this

i have a similar situation and mine works fine. i used lexan (kinda like plexiglass) to build mine, i have 7 fans rigged up to it, each fan has an 3 red LED's on it just to make it look cool. i also have a neon light and 2 amps all getting power from the same source. its quite simple with the use of a relay. the led's on the fans and the neon are run seperately by a swith (that gets power from the relay) that i rigged up just so i can turn the lights on and off if i want to. also the fans are turned on by the relay.

the way a relay works is kinda like an automatic switch. it has 3 input plugs and 1 output on it. the inputs are as follows: signal from a switch (in this case the remote wire from the HU), power from a power source (my case, my distributor from my cap), and a ground.

the output is what u use to run power to the external sources such as fans and lights.

with this setup u can run as much power from the relay as you need. it works for remotes for amps and power for lights and fans and other things that run off 12 volts.

the realy is fused with a 30 amp fuse built in for protection

if u have any more questions ask or u can go here:

http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/caraudio.htm

thats where i learned all about how to do all that, use the frames and figure out whatever u need to. they also have a section on good ways to build ampracks
