ive used one of those long type fanse before and it didnt do much of anything not worth the price IMHO im actually about to start looking for some fans for my setup and a relay and ill probably go with some type of pc fan

I am running a pair of PC/computer 80mm fans to cool a couple of fairly hot amps in a tightly enclosed rack. Air flow is routed across the heat sinks and out of the rack to chambers into dead air, but I think I should add another pair of fans still (4 total). As it is, though, I never reach "protection" on either of the amps. Generically, electronics just run better when they're cooler.

no need to buy the name brand ones. You can get on a pc website. Coolerguys.com is a good one to get fans from.
Make sure they are built to handle 14.4volts though, I had two nice fans die on me from giving them 14.4v. They were fans my dad bought online for his somputer but they were the wrong size or something, but not cheapo ones either, just rated at 12v and not 14.4 stable through trial and error //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

About what fans to use, I also agree traditional is probably your best bet if you have the space, just be sure to make use of the airflow, pulling works alot better than pushing, and make sure to force the air over the heatsink by not leaving much room for it around the sides of the amp.

Heres mine, their is plexi sealing the amp in the forground.. (click for big pic)

wouldn't it be better to aim two fans to blow fresh air over the heatsinks on one end and have two more fans on the other end to pull the hot air out creating a cross air flow over the heatsinks ?

I see in your picture of your amp rack that you have the plexi glass very close to the heatsink of the amp, and the fans not aimed at the heatsink, how does your method work ?
