Concrete barrier weight

Anyone know how much those concrete barriers weigh? The big rectangular ones, they're like 4X4X7ft or so. We need to move one about 5-10 feet and want to know if we could drag it with an SUV. The block is on dirt but the truck would be on pavement(so no traction issue).

They move them with cranes for a reason.

If I had to move it...I would try make mud and it may lessen the coeffecient of friction.

Another choice is to dig a small trench and place logs underneath it. Overcoming inertia is gonna be hard either way.

Are you trying to be legit or do it under the cover of night?

I had to move one for a wrecker before. I had a 4x4 with a 454 in it, and WIDE tires. I put it in 4 low, and still had some traction issues, but after about 10% of tread gone, I finally got some good traction and pulled it. Make sure you have proper pulling equipment, and if it's that SUV in your avatar, there's no way...

These are the shorter ones used for local streets and stuff, not the freeway ones

you could use a truck, use a few snatch blocks and you could reduce the load by enough, lay some sand or something down to help it slide; definitely a can do. BUT a straight pull, 20% you move the block a little 40% move it and break something on the truck 40% just no go. (with the montero)

if you have a tcase w/ low gears use them.

If the block weighs 5700 lbs, and you have two snatch blocks you would only be pulling 2800lbs, so add some weight for the resistance of the block on the ground, factor in the your max towing cap for the truck and some sand or what have you to aid in pulling and it looking better (if you have the v6)....well you might need more line and snatch blocks if you are using the montario, with enough line and tackle anything is possible, it's just math.

If he used a pulley he could probably lift it enough to put rollers of some kind under neath it.

If he is trying to steal it, vuilding such a contraption wouldn't work.

Get about 5-10 feet away from it with a 20 ft chain and just floor it. It'll move.
