Computer Just Constantly Restarts, cant do anything!!

Woke up this morning and I think I got a virus. The PC flashed a protection error then just restarted. Now it just keeps restarting over and over, goes to the black screen that asks you if you wanna restart windows normally, or in safe mode, or last known good configuration, I tried all those, it makes it 1/2 way through the boot up and then just restarts back to that screen again

What the heck can I do?? This is for a HP with windows xp if it matters

files are pretty important, Ive done a recent backup, but I still have some new stuff. Was hoping there was some hot keys or something to get me past bootup and atleast be able to use the pc, even if I have to end up formatting

buy another small hd throw an os on there then plug the otherone up and transfer files you need

If you can't boot into safe mode, last known condition, etc then you're probably screwed. If you can get into your BIOS, you might be alright. Do you have your windows disc? You may be able to boot from that...of if you can get an external hard drive that has windows on it, and boot from that.

Good luck, and you should find a friend how knows a lot about computers to help you do this.

Ya Im really stuck here, Ive got boot disks I think but my xp is pirated off that cd

I dont really have any pc oriented friends,is there not any hot keys that I can hit during startup that will allow me to do anything?? Id really just like to get to my harddrives for a few minutes and cop a few things then I will just reformat.

Boot off your Windows CD, and see if repairing your installation fixes the problem. This doesn't format your HDD, just replaces corrupt files.

If you have a second computer, see if you can find something like SeaTools (basically a bootable check disk) or whatever the hell the Geek Squad calls their diag tools. These can check the health of your HDD without having to boot into windows.

you can take your hard drive out stick in an anti-static bag and bring it to a computer place.. ask them to take the info off and save it to something for you.. a disc or w.e you want..

boot with f5 and select "boot with last known working windows configuration" or something like that
