I need help with my computer guys. My computer doesnt boot up after I finished building it. POST doesnt load, it doesnt go into bios, nothing! My monitor is blank. I tripled checked everything and I cant figure out what is wrong with it. The motherboard powers up, fans are blowing, led lights on my case are on, but there's no power going to my harddrives, floppy disk drive, nor cdrom/dvdrom. The lights doesnt flash or anything like that. Turned off the computer, unplugged the IDE2 cable from the mobo, turned computer on, lights start flashing/blinking from my cd/dvdroms. Same thing happens when I unplug the other cables from mobo, but once I plug the cables back into the mobo, nothing happens! I am now confused as hell because this same thing happened to me before on my p4 build.

Here are specs on my pc:

amd 64 3500+ venice core

msi mobo

gigabyte 6600 gt video card

creative labs soundblaster audigy zs

1gig stick corsair

And about the p4 build, it had the same problem, everything was also brand new, installed everything but wouldnt boot up as this one. I thought the mobo was fried and so I went out and got that setup above instead. Everything is installed into the same case/tower and power supply.

Jumpers placed wrong? Are there any beeps from the computer? if so how many.. Does it give you the option to edit bios settings?

BIOS is not working... no beep, no editing

edit just saw the part about your power working when disconnected from mobo hmmmm...

My uncle's PC was doing the same thing, it was just a screw in the wrong place. If you take it to a repair shop, they won't even let you keep the motherboard. It's a "potential failure point" and they'll make you buy a new one. =\

My friend had this exact same problem and had to call me up ...
You know those screws that screw into the case and then you screw the motherboard into them ? He put them in every hole in the case instead of just where the screws go to hold the motherboard, so it was shorting out the motherboard ...

Pretty simple fix, just take out the motherboard, remove any unnecessary screws (there should only be 9), and screw it back in ...

If it's not that, I'm going to have to go with faulty equipment (power supply or motherboard) ...
J, you could be right, because I am using all of them. Let me try it when I get home from work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

I hope that's the problem.

Are you talking about the brass standoffs?

There may not been 9, (the motherboard may not be ATX.)

Beyond that, reset the CMOS with the jumper, and verify that if the board needs to be jumpered for FSB and CPU clock that it's set correctly.

Disassemble it completely, lay the board on the desk, install CPU, RAM, Video (if not built in). Attach power supply, connect power button.

Reset CMOS.

Press power.

See if it operates then. (Rather than put it back in the case first. it should function fine without HD, CDROM, keyboard, mouse, etc.)

What model mobo? Diagnostic LEDs? My favorite was an EPOX 8KTA3+.

Motherboard is a MB|MSI K8N Neo4/SLI. I got home from work and I guess my brother did something to it, now it's booting up fine but it's not detecting any of my harddrives or cdroms, but it is detecting the floppy disk drive. I double checked the jumpers and everything is hooked up right. I went into bios to detect it automatically but still nothing, anybody know??

ok after many trial and errors, it was the **** cable, instead of the end of the ide cable going to master, it goes into slave, and the the middle part of the ide cable which is suppose to go to slave is master....its sum weird shit...

...anyways, it is now detecting my harddrive and roms, but it isnt detecting my floppy disk drive. The drive doesnt even light up when i push power. Im guessing the drive could be bad. I unplugged the ide cable from the drive with the power still attached but it isnt lighting up when power is turned on. What do you guys think???

ok. I fixed the problem. Thanks for all the help guys. Lets just hope I dont run into anymore problems!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
