Imagine going to the uber geek forum *cough* [HTguide] with a speaker design

idea and you get blasted, later your thread locked and you banned.

Happened to this dude.

Then he posted on the AVS forum for help.

People are being harsh so I lured this guy to talk in private and

progress is being made. All it takes is some simple

education to get someone on the right track vs. the gauntlet of BS

they make him go through because he won't follow the 'in crowd'.

I don't see him getting blasted until he fails to take the time and LEARN what he is trying to do, rather than just put out "cool looking designs" and see what reactions he is given. It was his own ignorance. I agree a ban wasn't in order but come on. At least try and learn something.

He sounds like someone who doesn't have that much knowlage but wants to do big ideas.... Then doesn't want to learn why his ideas wont work.....

Here is the issue. He wants sound to mimick a live performance because he

was in a band. He wants that impact from drums, the SPL from brass, etc.

Some said 'line array' or 'pro audio drivers', but this is too generic for him, nobody really

spelled out a game plan for him in more detail and there is individuals on both

forums who really think a Dayton array {my proposal} can't be done {but it can}.

PA system = old school

Line array = better school

I have used pro audio drivers, I have some old school EV stuff. Works great,

lots of SPL, but SQ can't compete with a well done line array. A 32 driver

Dayton array cost;

Tweeters - $400

Midwoofers -$450

A quality PA design would probably need JBL, Radian drivers, etc. Cost range is

$129 - $490 each.

Then you need a quality 10" midrange and so forth. Adds up fast. Simpler design

as it uses less drivers, you can dish out punishment, but you'd probably favor

the array in the end for having a better mix of SQ with SPL.

PA can get expencive I'm not going to lie. My favorite PA speakers of all time have to be Meyer Sound though. If I wanted volume there are the two speakers I would get.
