Combatting forum spam

Since there are so many spam threads/posts recently, why not setup some sort of time delay for posting, say an hour or two after creating an account?

I'm sure it will be a bit discouraging towards the newcomers, but a note on the sign up page explaining why would probably help.

Just throwing ideas around.

Many forums have a 10 post min. before you can post pics.

But is it really that big of a deal? Just dont' click on links that say ebony snuff flicks as you know it isn't caraudio related :p

Its not about ignoring it, its about keeping server resources from being allocated in a useless manner.
I'm going to guess that the user reg and thread creation doesn't tax the server //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Its just pron spam, don't click on the threads.....unless it sounds really interesting of course //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

WTF I hate spam threads like this, could a mod delete asap?
indeed

One or two don't, but when you get a few hundred in a week, it starts to add up.

Even after a thread is deleted it still remains in the database until it expires or until someone reinstates its status. (Undelte, if you will)

The few hits from spambots mean nothing in regards to server resources and the amount of data used to store banned spambots and threads is very minimal even if you had thousands and thousands of them.

They are just more annoying for members and mods than anything. There is the ability to do many things to prevent this including a simple question such as 'Does Fi Have a website?' if it is a spambot it will not be able to answer but if someone signing up types 'yes' then the registration goes through.

There are probably 15 ways to do it but Goob will never do any of them. Also I believe they do have captcha here but the newer bots can easily get around it.
