Coaxle - Components

LOL, call me stupid but what is the noticeable differences besides the fact that the tweeter is seperate.

I have coaxles now and just ordered a good set of components and i wanna what difference my ear is going to hear SQ wise.

Also, what is the purpose of the crossover?? Tweeter and mid wires go to crossover and crossover runs to amp with two seperate wires?
