Clutch repaires___Resurfacing flywheel___safety concern?

we were getting ready to trade my wifes car in to the dealership. Right before we did the clutch went out.

we had to get it fixed before trading it in.

the shops says we should have the flywheel resurfaced,

but if we are just trading it in to the dealership, does it realy matter?

She will have to drive it for a few weeks before we trade it in so I dont want there to be any unsafe problems from not getting it done.

Will her car be safe to drive if we dont have the flywheel resurfaced?

That shouldn't be a problem. Worse case scenario is your clutch won't engage, which isn't that big of a deal. Like you might get stuck in a gear or something. Is the clutch slipping right now? If you haven't noticed anything wrong wiith it, i's be willing to bet that it will make it until you trade it in.

Did you tell them you were going to trade the car? I don't trust too many mechanics. He could be in it with the dealership since they probably work hand and hand. I mean he's gets the money to fix the car and the dealer just gets a better car for selling. I say just get the clutch fixed and then see how it goes. If everything is good trade the car without the resurfacing.

Okay the flywheel gets hot spots in it from normal wear. These hotspots are taken off when a new clucth disk is installed so that the clutch will grip well and so that the clutch disk doesn't get premature wear. I'd say have it done. It technically doesn't need it, but to have a flywheel resurfaced shouldn't be very expensive, unless you waited too long to get a new clutch disk and caused damage to the flywheel. I'd have it done because what about that poor person that buys the car from the dealer that gets a car with a clutch that doesn't last as long as it should. Also how much are they charging for the cluth repair? You might be better off attempting to sell the car private party, as you will probably get more money out of it that way.

50 bucks? if the clutch is acting up, you could potentially lose a sale when you go to unload it. 53 bucks, do it. no question.
