hi, as you can see i am new to this board so please be nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i am currently running two arc audio 2500cxl amps to 2 jl audio 13.5 w7 subs... the problem is at the point of the music sounding the best the amps start to clip, now i did not set the gains my self the shop i took the stuff to did... where should i set the gains and all that so they do not clip any more??? sorry if this is a dumb question i am very new to the car audio world.... and i just feel as though for the money i spent i dont want to blow any thing up plus being the music sounds the best and loudest at that point why the heck is it clippping i do not have the stereo all the way up my head unit goes to 35 and it clips at 25 and the best sound is at 27....

thanks in advance

i have yet to see any deck that will not clip at redline. once you check the gains (per tutorial-yes buy a dmm, it's the best $30 you can spend in car audio) at the amps with the highest/most comforatble head unit volume... if thats not enough bass for you with that setup there may be something wrong. Like, say, are you running those subs sealed?

the head unit is a kenwood excelon kvdvd 915 sory if the # is off id have to check the box.. its last years model...well i never go to 30+ or even past 27 at that but like i was saying it sounds the best at 27... i used to run my solobaric 12L7s and some cheap interfires at the same level and they did not clip... the box is a huge slot ported jl speced box

evey time i try to go to the gain setting forum the whole site shuts down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

^ the only reason i know its clipping cause i see the clipping lite come on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yup, Arcs have a clipping indicator

I wouldn't doubt it that either .the ...

1. The JL shop that set up your system did it on purpose (thank god the Arc's have protection against just about everything) so that your equipment would seem defective

2. They dont know shyt about tuning a system properly before giving the vehicle back to the customer

Check you gains on the CXL 2500's- its not a **** volume leve for gods sake- that amp will put out its rated 1100-1200 rms easy on near 1/4 gains and play around until its right

Also Alpine's have a very low voltage sub out (not 4v, more like 1.8v) and the 2500's inputs are very sensitive to dirty signals- in case your problems persist

Call Arc @ Phone: +1-209-543-8706 and ask for Steve or Brad- they'll be happy to answer any questions

i do not have a alpine head unit its a kenwood exleron thanks for the tips ima go trn them down to around 1/4 now..

i thought the same thing they set them to high on purpose so id come in and spent another 2000 plus on new jl audio amps

also the gains does it go left being the lowest an right being the highest?

I know nothing about your head unit or amp but make sure you check out any sound processing features such as an EQ/Bass Boost/remote bass boost and anything else that might be increasing the signal. My Alpine HU has some features that can really boost the signal without you even really knowing they are on.

the tut confuses. I'm not good with formulas and stuff. right now I've just got my gains set at about 75% hoping it's not clipping, I have no idea what to set the the crossover freq hz at.
