Clipping signal to sub noise?

Ive never heard a subwoofer clip. Ive heard one get muddy from being over driven but I am getting some noise with the W7 8" and the DD 1508 I isntalled. Both in the same enclosure. It sounds mechanical. I thought it was just bottoming out but im starting to wonder. Another issue is I am waiting on some 4 guage to come in. Currently using 8 guage on my 1000 but its a short 2ft run over to a distro block that is fed back to the battery with 4 gauge.

Clipping can indeed sound exactly like mechanical noises similar to voice coil rub or bottoming.

ok, guess I need to set the JL 1000 up how JL tells me to. Will give that a shot soon as I get my 4 gauge run in and this sub has some play time on it.

Is there any video of this happening? I would like to compare it to my noise. I am not getting much volume before it does it.

Gain was at 80V and I got it down to the 63.2 JL specified. Now it barely has any volume. Some songs I still get the noise.

Most songs when the volume gets high. I am really starting to think its the box. The W7 doing the same thing but I had the W7 on a smaller amp a long tim ago and it sounded great and louder then off my 1000/1.. maybe to quick to overpower it. The DD1508 does it quick but it still needs to break in. Here is my box... its to big... port is to small.. and tune is to low... just need to know if I can modify it to work.

It is, I talked to DD and the W7 just works better in that enclosure. I am throwing it back in and selling the box/sub and I am selling the DD. Picking up an IDmax at a good price and will be running that.
