Clipping question..

nope it just matches with the amp gain. If you raise your head unit volume, you'll either have to lower your sub level or lower your gain if you play music that matches the test tone you used to set the gain.

However if you used a 0 db test tone and are just playing normal hip hop, you can raise the sub level a bit more because DB levels on song also determines your pre-out voltage and not much music out there has 0 db bass signal strength.

I highly recommend you use audacity to check your song's bass levels and set gains accordingly to your music library.

Hmm.... i used a 50hz -3db tone to set gains on an APCL-3000. Volume is at 15 of 40 on a Pioneer double din. Not sure what output voltage is at vol 15. Set gains to 50 vac before clipoing occured. Eq is flat and bass boost at 0. But 50vac at 2 ohm is only 1250 rms by my calculations. And this amp has been playing at voltages as much as 100vac read using a dmm for months with no audible distortion and no coil smell. Not sure whats going on. I was thinking that the clipoing is happening early because the preout voltage is low at volume 15. I used that volume because the mids and highs are screaming at that point.

Btw gain is at roughly 30% right now.
