Clarion DRZ-9255 and Boston Pro subs .... another perspective ...

Today i had a friend from the forum over to hear my system. What makes this interesting is he has almost the exact same system. We have the same same model Arc XXK sub and frontstage amps. We have the same Rainbow Profi Kick components. and they are mounted in the exact same place in both cars. We even have the same wiring ..... The ONLY difference is, he has the Eclipse CD-7000 and I have the Clarion DRZ-9255 ..... He also has the Alumapro Alchemy MX subs and i have the Boston Pro 12.5 LF subs.

Both systems were extensively tuned by the same person.....

The word he used to describe the difference in the sound of our systems was " DRAMATIC " ..... This is the difference in the sound of those two head units.

Recently several people commented that the DRZ is only a so-so sounding head unit ...... Yeah right. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif My opinion may be biased since I own the DRZ .... but if you have been swayed by any negative comments about it , you may want to contact skierxx5556 via PM ..... Ask him what he thought , and know the truth. The truth will set you free .... LOL

Also ask him what he thought of the subs ...... Blown away probably doesn't begin.

How do you know it wasn't your wires that made the difference and not the headunit?

Damn.....I mean damn!! That is one bold statement there Derrin!!! My question is why, in your estimation, is the difference so dramatic....what about the DRZ smokes the competition???
Yeah .... It is a bold statement , but the difference is VERY , VERY bold too. My own word to describe the difference would be " shocking " ....

The reasons would be simple .... The Clarion was designed and built without comprimise anywhere .... from the amp sized stand alone power supply , to the copper chassis , silver plated VERY nice RCA leads , heavy construction , better electronics with tighter tolerance parts , ect ..... The Eclipse was NOT built with those things in mind. It really is that simple.

EVERY piece of electronic gear is designed with very specific operating tolerances to produce it's ideal sound of musicality , or better put it , to simply pass the signal without changing it's integrity .....

Now , the parts used in that process are not perfectly fixed static. They all have varying tolerances. Better components will have MUCH less variabls in their tolerances , and therefore will come MUCH closer to lining up with the original design of intention that works towards changing the signal as little as possible.

THIS is why EVERYTHING in the world of audio has it's own individual sound , no matter what the people standing in the name of ignorance or denial , who say there is no difference in the sound of amps , cd players , ect say ....

We both have the same wires ... I'm the one who sold Derek his wires //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well spank my *** and call me Charlie. You have the best headunit in this galax... no wait universe! Please have my children.

BTW I once moved my entire system from one car to another, basically the same system (HU, Amps, Speakers, Sub) and it sounded MUCH better in one car than the other. Do an A/B test, I'd respect it much more. Either way its expected that a pure SQ deck will beat one that was a compromise between extra features and SQ.

Hey Bud .... Since you're considering the same Boston subs i have , you might want to contact my friend skierxx5556 for his unbiased opinion ...... He has a nice system and great ears , and could probably give you great insight on how they sound .....

Only if you wear the Tu tu again , bring the step ladder , and that midget that smells like a wild turkey ..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Not trying to say it is the best , only that there is a HUGE difference between it and the Eclipse .....

my clarion is impressive itself i love the sound quality, it almost sounds realistic
You know .... You have stated the single most desired goal in audio reproduction .... To sound " real " , and that is EXACTLY one of the words Derek said when he listened to my system , is how " real " it sounds ....

My system did NOT sound that real with my Alpine , or with his Eclipse.

LOL.

Anyhoo, read the second part of my post (I edited).

You are exactly right about the test being better if we could have did AB comparisons. i have had other H/Us in my car though with everything else being the same , and NONE of them were close either.

Don't take my word for it though , hear one for yourself. I'm definitely NOT trying to brag on my H/U or say my personal one is best or anything , as anyone can buy one for themselves .... I'm just sharing what i think is an interesting observation between two forum guys ....

Hey guys I really dont care what any of you say, but that HU blows the CD7000 away for SQ. Some of the sound repoduction in the Eclipse sounds processed and life less, while the Clarion playing the same CD's really adds color and life where the CD7k was lacking. The clarion also adds some very nice transparancy which makes the speakers dissappear, where as the CD7k lacks in this as well. Dont get me wrong thought the CD7k is a good sounding unit it just doesnt hold up in certain areas.

Those Boston Pro subs are bad ***!! All I can say is they hit hard and clean and do not miss a note! While the Alumapros are great and are prob one of the better SQ subs out there. These Boston's do not comapre they have prob the best low end extention of any sq sub that I have heard while being able to keep up with a 6.5 mid on kick drum notes. They are pure ***!

How would you compare it to the 8053??

Wait....the BA's don't compare how...they are better in your experience than the RX's??? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif Aren't you running the RX??

I dont know how it would compare to the 8053 as I have never heard/delt with one. This is my first eclipse unit and I can say that I am not happy.

I just havent updated my sig in a while lol, but I am running the MX's right now and the BA's absolutely murder them for SQ.
