update: i got canned, for making too much money

How long have you worked there? Ive been there over 5 years now, worked all the way through high school then get a call that all the seniors etc have to be in at 8 this morning. I didnt get shitted on because im not that far over my cap, but they let 8 people go from my store, people who actually need the money not college kids that have there whole life ahead of em. Everyone getting layed off in my store is over 35, some in there 50s, and one that turns 60 next week. What the hell are they supposed to do ya know? It is bullshit how you work for a company for so long(some of the people in my store that got layed off have worked there for 13+ years) and they can just say take a hike one day. It boggles my mind how a company sets pay caps, and still gives raises beyond that and then the employees get shitted on because of it. Also they are supposedly going through some "management reconstruction", so there will more than likely be more changes this week. I wish the people actually profiting from these lay offs would come and face the people that are getting screwed over, and at least tell em face to face. This is bullshit!

I understand it happens, but it doesnt make it right. And when it happens right in my job with people I have built relationships with, and possibly can effect me it pisses me off even more. Not to mention my store didnt get hit near as bad as alot of stores did/will accross the nation. Corporate america bullshit.

Circuit City to cut more than 130 local jobs

Circuit City Stores is firing about 3,400 workers at its stores, including more than 130 Washington-area employees, who are paid "well above the market-based salary range for their role" and will hire new associates for these positions who will earn less, the consumer electronics retailer said Wednesday

The stock price is roughly the same as when they did the layoffs in 2002 and cut commision. Basically they can fire someone who is 55, making 30 dollars an hour and higher 2 17 year olds who dont know shit, pay em 8 dollars an hour and not have to give them benifits. I cant wait till i get through college and can quit working for this shit *** company, and probably move to another shit *** company that screws people over as well.

It sure will, I am about 3 hours from there and they are laying people off at atleast two stores i know of in chicago. Probably more, i just personally know two managers that work in chicago and have told me they are laying off over 10 people in their stores.

Funny thing is, circuit city called me in for an interview last week, but had no openings available at the car audio position at the time. They called me back today to schedule a second interview because they said they have openings now...
