It probably would have been wise for me to take some kind of class on it. It would have saved me a lot of embarrassment talking to first-language Chinese with a wrong tone. I once told a reverend my favorite Chinese actor was feces...they still won't let me live that one down. It's amazing how the same word means completely different things depending on the tone. I'm still getting use to making the correct tones.pshhh i can barely speak it, pin yin is what got me though mandarin class
