Cheap Gaming/browsing CRT

I'm looking at getting a new monitor (I'm on my computer a lot) and have a lot of the most recent xbox 360 games. I'm not limited by space and would only probably use this monitor for a year (unless I took it with me to college).

The problem I have is that, Xbox 360 is 720p and most computer LCDs are 1080p...and LCDs traditionally are only good in their native resolution. I'd like a new monitor (1998 Dell CRT) and a good gaming monitor. The bigger the better, I'm also looking for something

What units would you recommend that are reasonable (

Am I reading that correctly that you want to hook up your Xbox 360 to your computer monitor?
Yes, why is that a problem? Computer monitors are HD, and as long as I use the appropriate connections I should be fine.

Not sure if this is anything new to you or not.....

The Xbox 360 is HD 720p, 1080i, and 1080p compatible.

Almost all widescreen computer monitors aren't true HD 1080 compatible, since the display ratio is 16:10 as opposed to a television's 16:9 ratio. In order to hook up the Xbox 360 to a computer monitor, you'll need a DVI or D-sub (VGA 15 pin) video plug adapter. If you don't already have one, they are available (info here).

Here's more info:

Connecting an Xbox360 to a PC Monitor or HDTV using the VGA Cable

Note - For HDTVs with VGA Inputs, be sure that your TV's VGA input supports one of the resolutions below, or you will be unable to use this cable!

When you connect the VGA AV Cable to your Xbox 360, you should see a slight change to the Display settings menu.

Instead of choosing 480p, 720p, 1080i, etc, you would in fact select the screen resolution you wish to use.

The following resolutions are available for selection:

640x480, "Normal" or Widescreen format

848x480, Widescreen format

1024x768, "Normal" or Widescreen format

1280x720, Widescreen format

1280x768, Widescreen format

1280x1024, (see below)

1360x768, Widescreen format

The 1280x1024 resolution will only be available for selection if you have connected your Xbox 360 to Xbox Live.

For most CRT computer monitors, you should be able to use the highest resolution for your format.

For LCD Monitors, you should choose the output resolution that best matches the native screen resolution (check your instruction manual).

As far as a monitor, how about this one? Chimei is a huge supplier of LCD glass to many manufacturers, so why not just get it straight from the source? With the dual DVI + VGA inputs, you can hook up both your PC (if it has DVI out) and the Xbox 360 at the same time without the hassle of always having to swap cables.

Xbox 360 VGA cable is here for $35

Monitor + Cable = about $265 shipped after rebate.

I was recommended the Sony F520 (21") and Sony FW900 (24") both CRTs, are these still available anywhere? new or used besides ebay...I didnt find many on ebay (no F520s, a few crappy FW900s)

You're the man!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Any idea where I could find the optical output? Also, I think the 360 is coming out with an hdmi cable

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16874103073

Could I plug that into the back of my 360 and get an hdmi (1080p) signal?

Only the XBOX360 Elite supports 1080p to my knowledge. The standard XBOX only supports 480i/480p/720p/1080i ...
nope, just checked my 360s dashboard. I believe only the elite can output 1080p, and that was because of its hdmi output. Go to display settings, the regular 360 has 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p. All the 360s can generate those signals, its just a matter of outputting the signal.

If you can't actually output 1080p to your television, then what is the point in using the 1080p setting ? The only thing it will do is stress your admittedly faulty hardware and reduce your framerates (neither of which are good).
Do you make me for a fool? I'm not stupid, I'm perfectly aware that I wouldn't be getting 1080p...even if it was on 1080p. Thats why I want to run the monitor at 720p for playing the 360 and 1080p for browsing, which requires that I have a monitor that can run multiple resolutions equally well (ie CRT)
