CDA-7998 IPod/Iphone w/ KCA-420i

I currently own a an Alpine CDA-7998 and purchased the Alpine KCA-420i to interface with the HU. I am confused as I have read that you will have limited control to it will not work at all. Will this work or should I buy a new HU such as the Alpine CDA-9887?

I do not think that you can use it. I had a couple of CDA-7998's and do not remember them being able to control and i-Pod. Call Alpine and let them know that you have a technical question. They will transfer you to the guys that can give you the answer.
