Car Audio Sales People

So I went into this car audio shop today.

Started talking to the sales guy. We got into my system (see Sig). And was like man your system *****. he told me I should UPGRADE to a w3. I was like well I probably hit in the 140 range and he told I was lying. . He also supposedly sold a woofer that he plugged into the wall for 8 hours and it didn't blow itself? But he was out of stock. I was just like uhhh yeah. Then I left.

I hear ya man, I was at a shop this weekend asking a techincal question to a sales guy (first mistake). He looked at my sub and said "Image Dynamics, huh?" I asked if he had ever heard one (its an IDMAX) he said "no, I have heard of them though. That they were a little above swap meet brand. but if you really want something good then you should try this PG Tantrum sub.

Funny sales guys.. gotta love them. Cant blame them, just trying to make a buck or two.

D

He should of put it a differnt way..like "well ya I have heard them once beofre. Granted I have heard them against our PG titaniums here. Now tehese put those Image Dynamics (sp.) int heir place!!!" Granted he'd be out of his fukcing gourd but u get tha drift.

See I work in at Best Buy (not bad work for a college student) and I cover for the car audio peoples... and oh boy is it a struggle not to tell people this stuff ***** and go online and do research. And allot of times I do. Hope my managers arn't into this stuff!

But for this guy to say he hooked a sub to a wall socket for 8 hours... how dumb did he think I was. BTW he said planet audio amps were low end and that RE subs can't get spl because they are so stiff.

Oh and he didn't know who Adire was. And gave me this long speal about how he's been in car audio for 20 years and has seen come and go. As if Adire is a fly by night company.

It was one of those conversaion were you don't want to be rude and just walk out or chew the guy a new one.

Ok I think I'm done! Whew

Hehe

After he said there was no way possible I could hit in the 140s I asked him if they had a meter. He said they didn't have one that goes over 140.

I should have siad well that tells the quality of what you sell.

For fun me and my friends will go into Walmart or Sears and ask for a guy who knows his shiznit about car audio. Me and my friend start talkin about ohms and tuning boxes and all that stuff. It's funny to just watch the saleman's face when you ask him a question and he has no idea what you are talking about. We usually say, "so if i take these two 10" Explodes, wire them to 13 ohms, use the 200 watt Roadgear amp, and then put them in a ported box tuned to 4 hz, will this make em REALLY loud?" They usually say something along the lines of....yea that would be awesome. That's when we just call them stupid and walk away bustin up laughin.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ya Know, I have been to 2 different shops that Sell JL & Phoenix Gold and i think people that sell that stuff are brainwashed into thinking that everything else is junk. I don't get it . don't ya just wanna fukkin choke the bastards???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

99 times out of 100 they know it's crap they are selling, but it takes a special kind of shithead to be a good salemen when selling garbage.. That's just what salesmen do, tell you what you want to hear to get you to buy stuff. I could never be a salesman cause I can't lie to people like that, makes me sick when I see that other human beings are that pethetic.. They get away with it cause most of the people they are dealing with are morons who don't want to take the time to learn about anything and would rather be spoon fed.. *shrug*

Personally, I never go into something without having done research to have at least some idea of what I'm getting into, just so the 'slick' salesmen can't BS me into something I don't want..

I have to be a salesman in tha fukcing grocery store. Convince them the more expensive **** (even if its only 10 cents more) is better. I don't like doing to though. Its fukkin retarded. Now when I am @ the local shop I try to show people there are others besided JL audio.

Being a CA salesman, I know that MOST will do whatever it takes to make a buck.

Smart ones on the other hand will sell whatever the customers WANTS so that he/she will come back to you again.

If you come to me and ask for explod, I will show you our explod line. I will let you know there is better for the money, but I will sell whatever you choose to buy. Heck a guy came to me today and wanted an audiovox HU. Sold him the best Audiovox unit we had in stock ((thats another $30 in my pocket next week). I was able to talk another guy from buying an xplod amp into a PG amp. Basically make the best sale you can but don't push the sale away.

Why most salesmen will resort to lying to make an extra buck is beyond me.

To tell the truth - there is no "BAD" brand, in the end what matters is what you want and how much you can spend to get it.

I have to agree 100%. The shop thats about 30mi north of me sell JL and Rockford and they told me I was out of my mind to have Xtant amps because Rockfords blew them out of the water. Then I was told that only a moron would spend that kind of money on Xtant amplifiers and hook up some crappy MTX woofers to it. I just laughed and said "I used to like this shop, it used to be worth the trip, not anymore". Needless to say I stay right here in town at my local shop nowadays.

thats why i do all my shopping on the internet.

a.) its cheaper

b.) there isnt any sells people to bug ya

I was in besy buy on time and this guy was telling me how rockford was the best brand and nothing compared to it. and in Sears one time I asked how many ohms this sub was and the guy gues whats a ohm...

Most of the time it's all about their commision, they'll try to sell you anything just to make more. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I'm with caraudioaddict. Having worked in retail for over 20 years their are basicly 2 types of shops. One that tells people the straight up and takes care of the customer. This costs money to do but to me is the right way to do business and the right place to buy. The other type is the "tellemwhattheywannahere90%offtodayonlyandonlybecauseIlikeya" type. They operate on lower markup, higher BS quotient and pathetic service.

The 1st type business operates that way because they like what they sell and are in it for the long haul. The second type does it because they want a quick buck and it works.

Most of the public isn't audiophiles or anyophiles for that matter. People in general want to believe that you can get a high SQ system for $99. If you tell them they can't they leave and find someone who will tell them they can. Some people want to believe that the car dealer sells them the new one at a loss and gives them over retail for the old lead sled. The dealer who tells the truth often loses the sale to the one who doesn't partly because one side lied but partly because one side didn't want to hear the truth.

Enthusiasts are a different breed from the normal customer for sure. Now why someone would go to Walmart and ask about premium audio stuff I don't know because they don't sell it anyway. I bet the sales rep at the Caddy store doesn't know the .25 mile ET on an STS with headers either.

I try to find a good vendor for the things I need and enjoy and stick with them. I probably pay a little more upfront but less in the long run. Locally we have a great home audio vendor who we have bought 3 systems from. None have ever broken or needed "upgrading". We went in with above average knowledge from research and dealt with a professional as opposed to someone who works at store X this month and store Y the next.

Carlin Audio by the way Dayton, Ohio. Great people. I still love our blue dial Marantz 2221 receiver and Celestion Ditton speakers. They are old enough to vote and drink beer but will still kick the shi-ite out of anything at Circuit City. My $0.02.

PEACE

In korea, it's a little bit different.. they tell you the real deals...that this or that sub or amp isn't good.... then they'll head you over to the zapco + Audison sections, and then try to get roughly about US$5000 from you everytime, like I carry that kind of money.. for God's sakes, I drive a Kia minivan...

THen get this, since I'm a loyal RF fan, he tells me that the Power HX2's are for sound quality and shows me pics of this demo car which won first place... it had a power HX2 in it... amazing, how so many people here say that RF's are mostly SPL, and this guy's telling me it's a pureashell SQ sub...hmm... whom should I believe?

Oh, get this... He says my amps are seriously underpowered formy subs(true) and proceeds to stick out a 1500bd.1 in my face, saying I need at LEAST this amp to drive them... er, it's a 200W 8ohm sub, my friend... also says the 1500 is as good or better than Zapco C90's...hmmm....

Anyway, after all that, I ask what do they do about the eletrical system should I decide to go with those huge monsters, and now urges me to the battery section, and shows me all sorts of batteries...Optima, Delco, Stinger, etc... hmmm, no alternator in sight...

Hmm... different countries, different sales tactics, same ol' dumbass..
