Can I transfer movie from Directv DVR receiver to my external HD?

Yes, TIVO is an after-market product not regulated by the cable/satellite company.
But you piraters are in trouble when IPTV gets here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
How so? A secure SSH tunnel or VPN service masks everything you do. All your ISP can see is your connection to the VPN and then every other bit of traffic is gone. Sure they can trace you if they want, but thousands and thousands of dollars later and getting the FBI involved all just to see what your using a VPN or SSH for. You may not even be doing anything illegal. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Market isnt set by me, but there are alot more pirates out there that will eventually set the market. I can download a 320kbps rip of a CD and buy 5 CDs for $2.50. Thats 5 CDs that cost me less than $3 with tax and I have an exact copy minus the garbage that the group produced. I can mix and match any 20 songs I want.
With the way hit records are going Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Lady Gaga, nobody these days can produce a decent hit. Thats why CDs get pirated.

HZ you should get DVDFab and a Netflix account. It will allow you to get any DVD in blu ray or regular DVD and use DVDFab to make your rips. For $10 a month you dont have to deal with the PPV bullshit.
Bottom line. Your a selfish *** that doesn't think you should have to pay for services. or rather, that you should have to pay this amount that you foolishly manufacture in your head as "too much."

You wanna complain about someone making to much money? tell me how someone can get paid millions and millions to hit a ball with a stick?

Not sure, but thats bullshit too. I actually wrote a newspaper column about this for my writing class.

The worst player in the NFL that sits on the bench makes $300,000 a season and all he does is go to practice and sit on the bench at games. A doctor makes on average $200,000 a year not counting plastic surgeons or brain surgeons. The doctors save lives on a regular basis, the athlete sits there. The athlete doesnt cure anything. Then there are athletes that actually play 10 minutes a game and make millions a year, but still dont cure anything. Its bullshit that the surgeons make so little, have to pay for atleast 8 years of school, save lives, and do tedious surgeries while a guy can toss a ball around and make 20x more than the surgeon.

It's not really that difficult, I run a host Experimental IPTV network. I can encrypt the feed to only play on a specific source given the right decryption protocols. However, you will never eliminate the ability to down-stream feed record signals unless you market the encryption all the way to the TV's Image processor itself. Since this is an outrageously expensive and impractical concept, yes it's still defeat-able, but only to a certain point.

There is another possibility in concept stages right now. I've worked as a consultant on the project recently. It involves running a generic encryption device in the TV, and the same concept as a carrier signal to give the correct protocol to de-code a specific signal. This would eliminate "thru-input recording" based on IP address-based security.

Music artists could try their hardest not to produce absolute shit. RIAA could probably try to adapt to digital instead of outright attacking.
No artist goes bankrupt cause of stolen cd's. Nothing will. For every person who copies, there are sold out shelves of the same material. Pirating is a bullshit, crybaby excuse for industries producing shit and not adapting.
If it's shit why are you stealing it? More people now pirate than pay for music. I know lots of young people who have never paid for music, yet own thousands of albums.

I work in the entertainment business. I've known lots of musicians who have gone bankrupt, and most who will never make a living because the music industry has completly melted down and is no longer a career choice.

Are you really so deluded that you don't realize your stealing is the reason most of the music is shit? The big record labels cannot afford to risk thier investments on unknown artists just because they're "good". They have to produce Miley Circus because she has the name brand recognition that will lead to thier only chance of profits. Your theft leads to more shit and less new artists. That is why most recording studios and music stores are closed and the few remaining will be gone in the next 5 years.

Just in case you have never read the Constitution, the founding fathers of this country understood why copyright protection was important;

The Congress shall have Power To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limitedTimes to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective

Writings and Discoveries;

cotjones has been laying a beatdown in here
Good work
Why thank you, lol.

No it's honestly just common sense, but the general population has become so predisposed to greed and sedition that they can't even understand why pirating music is wrong. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

As I already explained to you, you paid for a PPV, you did not pay for the right to make copies. Making further copies is pirating. If you wanted a copy in the first place you could have just bought the DVD, not a PPV. Then you can take it with you and play it as often as you like. Your sat/cable does not have the right to sell you "copies".

It is the Copyright holder that has the right to make "copies". No one else.

Music should never be about the money, some of the best music out there comes from the bands who aren't signed...Your trying to say that because they can't get rich off it, less people are starting bands? Well that's fine then, because the bands that are just looking to make money don't deserve to exist anyway.

Get rich? You sound like a fawking hippie. Amazing how people justify piracy. You don't seem to understand this is our business. Why don't you work for free? It's how we pay our rent and buy groceries. It's not a fawking hobby. Although, thanks to low life thieves that is what it has become. Now it's either corporate Disney/Miley Circus or a hobby.

Not only are less people starting bands, but they can't afford to make recordings. Microphones and guitars aren't free either. You think a piano is free? How is your local band supposed to pay for that? A local commercial recording studio? Forget it, they're gone. Miley Circus has her own studio. Where is your local band going to sell it's record? The record stores are all gone. Miley Circus has PPV. That's your fault.

Intellectual property is a fundamental principle of capitalism. The incentive to create new ideas, machines, medicines, writings, music, etc.

Chinese communists do not believe in intellectual property either. They can't, they're communists. Are you a communist?

I already said that bands make their money from touring and merchandise. I'd rather pay 5$ for a cd from a band that burned it in their basement because I know 100% of my money is going to the band. Where in the other case you pay 15$ for a cd in the store, and a huge cut goes to the record label, and the recording studio, etc, etc. I love how you automatically assume since I disagreed with you that I'm a huge pirate. If you read back through this thread you'll see that I already stated I buy all my music. I pirate it to demo it, if I like it, I buy the cd, if I don't like it, it get's deleted.
