Can I stick a 9885 Faceplate on my 9883 Alpine?

Want to upgrade to a 9885 for cheap and figured I would ask if the faceplates could just swap out. Anyone ever try before? Someone told me all the software was in the faceplate so I figured it would work but that is very wishful thinking on my part.

Haha. I know right. The used ones are cheap enough on ebay I'll probabaly just pick one up there.
