can I let fiberglass base dry and come back to add more layers?

hey I really want to start on some kick panels but right now I only have enough fiberglass to maybe make 1 layer on each of the floor molds. could I come back in about a week &1/2 and put the rest of the layers on the floor molds and finish? cant wait for payday to get started!!!

are you talking about leaving the floor molds in for that week and a half? or just doing one layer then removing them?

Probably better to just wait until you have enough for more than one layer.

my suggestion : do not start the project untill you have all the materials you need. because.... think about it.... you'll be driving around with all those toxic fumes in your car for the 1 1/2 weeks untill you get enough glass to make mold strong enough to remove. By starting it after you have all the nessasary supplies (i.e. mat, fiberglass, resin....) you can do the job in one day and remove it in a couple of hours and let car air out over night.

Trust me I know the feeling. I have 2- 6 1/2" 2- 4" and 2- tweeters I want to get installed in my custom build door panels i'm making... but I do not have all the materials handy yet... so .. I do what I can without the glassing in part yet and wait... Trust me I know its frustrating but better to do the job once than have to redo all that taping and foil and such twice. Remember 75% of your time will be spent in prep work for these type of projects.

Do you really want to do it twice? Just my 2 cents.

you can do it man. the mould will be strong enough to remove with one or two layers. and whatever, go out and get another $3~4 pack of glass for a few more layers. i did each kick with two packs of glass. so it costed like $8~10 after tax + resin and brushes. like $30 tops.

youd be surprised at how far 8sq yards (what they sell at autozone\pepboys) of glass goes.

and the 'toxic fumes' arent as bad for me as everyone seems to think. just roll the windows down. i did my kicks in about an hour (moulds) then i had to wait for them to cure, then i had to cut them and do the rings while they cured.

really only about 1 days worth of work (normal work day- 8 hours tops)

i could do a pair of carpetd kicks in like 3 hours i think. depending on drying time and the tools i have access to.

well I went ahead and started on a nissan 200sx that I got for a graduation present from my mom.the thing that kinda sucks is she didnt tell me the head gasket was blown and within 2 days of sporting it around I was on my way to school and boooom!!!I think the piston rod snapped.since then I've been saving to fix it and the fiber glassing materials were laying around so I thought I will go ahead and make it sound good and do all the custom work I wanted so its not just a 1000 pound paper weight and I put the kicks in the corners next to the back seat.I hope it sounds alright im putting 1-8"RF punch in each thanks for all the info. hey also do you guys think this will sound alright??thanks again sonny.
