Can i get good SPL downfiring?

Ok guys i have a question about what i might do here in the near future.

My current system right now is 2 Type R 12's in 5.1cft tuned to 33hz with dual 4" aero ports. Subs up, port forward. Running off an Alpine MRP-M1000. Haven't term labbed it but will on the 18th.

Im looking to upgrade my system in my 98 dodge ram 1500 ext cab from 2 Type R 12's to 4 Type R 12's running off of a RF T20001bd amp so 2000+ @1ohm.

My question is, if i were to downfire the subs and put 4 4" aero ports shooting forward, would it be a good spl setup or would i rather place the subs where they can push the most air? (i.e. top, front)

I've Termlab'ed downfiring, and in my old truck it was a bad firing position.

you can get good #'s downfiring. it takes a little more effort to get it right though. you may have to mess with distance from the floor, angle of subs, postioning of subs/port, etc....

ive done quite a few downfiring setups. they sound very good.

I agree that downfiring setups can give good results.

Example - RD 1750 on two 12" Single Spider RD Alphas downfiring in an 07 F-150(sealed enclosure) was doing 46-47 peak on music

But, as bones said, sometimes it takes a long time to get the setup to work correctly. It depends on how it fires off the floor. I'd probably just fire them upwards or forward.

Also, those two 12's in the F-150 Iwas talking about moved his steering column pretty well, it shook the truck to hell and back for some reason.
