Soooooooooo I'm in the market for a car around 10k. So far I've found a nice looking BMW 330i. I don't want to end up like Mr. Snoopy with a lemon Audi with no wantee...cuz then I'd be poissed... so I figured I'd ask the helpful people of CA for some input. Are there any known problems with these cars? How are they as far as maintenance? Is this a pretty good deal? Are there any other cars similar or better than this for the money?

snoopy snoop didn't do his research and failed

if you want a car that'll run forever and not have to worry about maintenance buy a honda

older audi's, especially the 1.8t's are known for the reliability issues. look for one with the 2.8, very stong, very reliable motor, similar to that of the one that comes in the VW VR6 gti's

BMW's are the same way, and it goes for most european cars, you either get a good one that lasts forever, or you get one that someone beat the living **** out of and breaks all the time.

That BMW with 100K miles is going to cost you much more in maintenance. You may look good riding in it, but your wallet will hate you //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

What is the main reason you want a BMW/Audi?

I was actually looking at a 2001 A6 2.8 for around the same price so thats good to know.

Main reason for considering them is to look good riding in lol. Seriously //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif.

pretty sure he just started the thread to make fun of snoopy fail.the dood has a lancer. why buy some pos 10k euro car?
Yes I have a new Lancer but I'm looking for something to replace my Camry. I helped out a family member and they got a car reposessed in my name so I'm limited to the amount I can spend.

And yea I'm trying to make fun of snoopy too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i'd go with the beemer... and as for reliability... the 3 series is solid... my friends e36 m3 has over 135k miles and it gets thrashed daily and still has yet to have anything major replaced...

I've always read that German cars cost a lot as far as maintenance but can anyone give an idea of how much "a lot" is compared to japanese or american cars? I know I could find this all on my own but I'm lazy and I'm sure someone out there is bored enough to do it for me. Personal experience is good too.

the parts aren't that much more expensive, it's the labor that kills you because you need a "specialist" to fix it..

or that's what people think, they're pretty simple to work on, no harder then your average Japanese or American car, although some specialty tools are required (improvising is definitely do-able). Diagnosing problems with a VAG-com or other obo II port related scan tool will save you thousands in labor by being able to do your own repairs.

Maybe I should just put off looking cool for a few years. I can afford the maintenance for the car but it seems like I would just be throwing money away. I'm confused now. Time to start looking at other options...
