Buying an oscilloscope....

Well after my setting gains with a DMM thread I have decided to just buy an oscilloscope. It is more accurate and easier than setting with a DMM with a load on it. I also can not get the mini speaker locally. So a PCs based scope is my go to now. Not much more than a shop setting them and then I have the gear to do it if/when I ever do another build.

Here red is my question, what is a good one to get? Amazon has the sain smart.....

Amazon.com: SainSmart DDS120 Portable Handheld PC-Based USB Digital Storage Oscilloscope 20MHz Bandwidth 50M/S: Home Improvement

and the Hantek...

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EY10OSE/ref=pe_253590_151303140_em_1p_1_ti

but what's the difference?

cant go wrong with a used crt dual trace scope off of ebay. more reliable and accurate than a handheld digital.

i bought a bk precision crt from a school liquidation for 60 buck/free shipping, got to keep it for free when i messaged the seller about the missing probes in the description and was refunded for the inconvienience.

Fancy meeting you here...

They're pretty much the same. The only noticeable difference by specs is that the sainsmart has both AC and DC coupling. AC coupling is handy when you want to see an AC signal that's riding on a DC level. I have a DSO Nano that I take to the car and an old analog Tektronix lab scope for anything on the bench. But if I had a laptop I'd probably pick one of those USB jobbies.

BTW, read the reviews. Neither is stellar.

the reviews arent stellar because people are expecting a $65 oscilloscope to perform as well as hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of lab grade oscilloscopes. for what we use, and for quick hobby use, they're perfect imho.

when i need a high quality oscope and have the money ill buy a standalone for a work bench but until then the dso is perfect.

The reviews say that the software doesn't install on some computers and the company has zero customer service. All they're expecting is that the thing should work.

My DSO Nano does what I want it to do too.

i didnt install any software on my computer, plugged it in to make sure it was charged then i used it. just like that.

I'd also recommend the DSO Nano. Even if I had a laptop, I'd prefer the small, all-in-one form factor of the Nano. I think it's a common build that many brands buy and slap their logos on. I've got the same one, but it's not by SainSmart. I doubt at ~$65 it'll hold its own against ones that cost ten times the price, but it's more than adequate for settings gains to maximize the clean power from your amps.
