brutus BX1500D

actually when i saw a picture of it, there were 2- 60 amp fuses

BX1500DPIC3.jpg

thats from ebay

it says on the web page its fuse rating is for 40 A. is this the right page for hifonics?http://www.maxxsonics.com/hifonics/amps_dclass.html

Im confused....I coulda sworn the fuse on the bx15000D was a 80 amp fuse. A quick estimation .....I would guess it draws 100amps maxx current.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif

But according to the fuses on the pic...thats 120amp fuse. I would expect atleast 130amps to be drawn at max output. :p

if it had an 80 amp fuse.....there would be no chance for the amp to put out 1500 watts. 120 amp fuse is in the ballpark though.

And like spyder said...on some amps the max draw is a little more than the fuse rating on the amp

hehe

Time for you to wake up and smell the......

Crunch (maxsonic is the parent company) actually bought out Hifonics a couple of years ago.

Hifonics is not what it use to be, but its still a really really good amp company. If your really looking for a good Hifonics amp with plently underated wattage look for the Gen XI series. I believe its pre cruch so you get more than what you pay for.

buzzer.. wrong..

maxsonics bought Hifonics, and Crunch, a couple years back from Audio Products Inc. Crunch and Hifonics have been sister companies for several years now.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and were GASP sister companies during the time of the Gen XI amps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well

I might be wrong about the Gen XI being pre merger, but they are better than the current models...you can't argue with that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

And Im pretty sure I mentioned maxsonic being the parent company of both. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Thats old news.

As for the max current draw being 180 amps....just curious howd you come up with a number like that. Do you happen to know the internal resistance of the amp and then calculate the AC and Dc characteristics for the amp. Or is this a measurement. Not trying to sound like an a$$ just curious how did you come up with 180 amps. Just seems a little too high. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

And if this is the max draw of the amp, I wouldn't worry about such a high draw. It'll operate well under the max current draw most of the time.

ohms law....

I = P/V

lets realize 2 things.. you will have voltage sag , and that no amplifier is 100% efficient..

this amp will do around 1600 watts... figure it'll be around 70% efficient at full volume, so

1600 watts / 12 volts (typical sag for a stock electrical system) = 133.3 amps + 30% (remember.. 70% efficient) = 173.3 amps of current draw..

so I was a bit over 6 amps off... not bad for a guess

I trust your math and all...and I dont know much about how much power amps pull in, but it is hard to imagine that you can use a formula for that saying that EVERY amp is the same exact efficency rate. So your saying that every 1200 watt amp will draw the exact same current from an alternator?? I thought some amps would draw less amps from an alternator then others and put out same amount of watts? dont want to be an a$$...just wondering
