if the dvd drive is dead its kind of useless. The xbox firmware is assigned only that one dvd drive it originally came with.. you cant replace it.

Yes you can but its not as easy as just putting a new drive in

meaning its dead unless you are exceptionally good with electronics, meaning you know how to re-assign microsoft firmware. good luck with that heh.

Why not just send it back to microsoft for a repair? If its still under warranty that is.
