broken tinsel lead

The only sub I had that broke a tinsel was an old jl w0. Soldering it didn't hold long. I ended up tieing some wire to each end soldering them. Held till I blew it.

Fwiw I was like 16. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

hey man youre 9515 lead broke? Yeah honestly that's a big problem that only becomes a bandaid if you do it incorrectly. I notice that you have to be real good with soldering it on or else it'll break right off. Had the same issue with my 1st gen btl's. Need to just solder it on correctly and make sure it doesnt get pulled off when the sub moves and there's a good enough length to connect back to the terminal. I have a magnum too btw with a 21" warden.

I've soldered quite a few tinsels. I'd like to think I'm competent at soldering and in the end I'd say it came out to about a 75% failure rate over time.

I soldered it with about an inch and a half of speaker wire to give the tinsel room to flex without pulling tight. It looks like a hack job but im confident that the solders are solid

Welp i soldered it and its still ****** up. When both subs are hooked up the intermittently play. Ita like the amps cutting out. Maybe the sub has a short?

The soldered section probably came undone and is shorting on something. There's a reason that tinsel is the way it is. Speaker wire is to heavy and doesn't have the flexibility to work in this case. Think of a 50hz tone and picture how fast the cone is moving and you can see why the failure rate is high for soldered tinsel, especially if you have the less flexible, heavier speaker wire added into the mix.

well you prolly have weak solder skills, hook the dmm up it and check it compared to other side. youll know when you have a good connection. My issues was not getting a good contact from tinsel to solder. Thats when i did this, pulled cone and added a whole new tinsel. i have had zero issues with it since. i have though had an issue with a tinsel i have never touch. but what can i expect out an 05 sub.
