broken kenwood kac 9104d

I was going through my junk closet last night and found a kenwood kac 9104d that I had completely forgotten about. I hooked it up and the power light comes on but so does the protect light. I took it apart and nothing looks to be wrong. Any ideas on what could be wrong other than it is a piece of crap right out of the box?
